Standard circulation 2 euro coin - Italy - 2002

Features the profile portrait of Dante Alighieri (author of the Divine Comedy) wearing a laurel wreath and hood. To the left of the profile is the monogram RI (for Repubblica Italiana—an R overlapping an I, which looks like a struck-through R) and the mintage year 2002. Near his chin on the bottom left is a small R (the mint mark for Rome) and the artist's initials MCC (Maria Carmela Colaneri) on the right.
