Saboteur: The Duel (also published as Saboteur: Duel) is a standalone 1-to-2 player adaptation of the classic hidden-identity card game. Unlike the original multiplayer game, there are no secret role cards; instead, both players are directly competing dwarves—acting simultaneously as gold-diggers for themselves and saboteurs against their opponent.
- The Setup: Each dwarf starts from their own entrance card, facing six face-down goal cards scattered across a shared mine.
- Tunnel Building: Players take turns laying down path cards to navigate toward the goal cards to uncover gold nuggets. Paths must connect back to a player's starting entrance until the two tunnel networks are linked.
- Obstacles & Sabotage: The maze is packed with tactical hazards. Colored doors allow only the matching dwarf through unless unlocked with key cards. Trolls block paths and demand a gold coin toll to pass. Players can also play sabotage cards directly onto their opponent to break their tools (lamps, pickaxes, or mine carts), freezing their path-building ability until repaired or paid off.
- Solo Mode: The game also includes a dedicated solo mode where a single player competes against the deck to harvest as much gold as possible before cards run out.
- Scoring & Victory: Over three rounds, players claim gold by reaching goal cards and placing dwarf tokens on uncovered nuggets. At the end of three rounds (after paying any troll tolls), the dwarf with the most gold wins the game.
